Coalsaver 9″ clay back fire brick – Clay fire bricks
Refractory clay fire bricks are predominantly used today with open fires. In addition to holding heat, these fire bricks also have exceptional heat resistance and can handle more extreme thermal shocks. Common bricks are more porous than fire brick. This means that, while they may be considered relatively heavy, they are less dense and less smooth than vermiculite fire brick.
Clay fire bricks for stoves are specially made, dense refractory bricks with high alumina content, designed to withstand extreme heat (up to 1300°C/2400°F) and thermal shock without cracking, providing superior heat retention and insulation for fireboxes, unlike standard bricks which would degrade. They protect the stove’s metal, increase efficiency by storing and radiating heat slowly, and come in various sizes and types.
make your fire bricks last longer
- Do not use over-sized logs in your stove which may cause damage
- Do not overfill your stove
- Ensure you only burn seasoned wood
- Where possible, place the logs into the stove rather than throwing or dropping them.
- If cleaning your stove internally do not use water or water based cleaning agents, vermiculite will weaken if it absorbs moisture
- Avoid over-firing your stove. The fire bricks will have at pink colour if this is occurring.
